We spoke with Dr. Bilel Jamoussi, Chief of the Study Groups Department, at ITU-T, the standardization office of the International Telecommunications Union, ITU-T, in a new chapter of #IDDTalks, a space created by IDDLAC that addresses topics that help to understand and improve the Digital Ecosystem.
Wednesday, May 4, 2022. A new episode of #IDDTalks, the space created by the Institue of Digital Development for Latin America and the Caribbean, to promote topics related to the Digital Ecosystem.
On this new episode, the IDD LAC team, led by Andrés Piazza and Andrés Sastre, received Dr. Bilel Jamoussi, Chief of the Study Groups Department, of the Standardization Office of the International Telecommunications Union, ITU-T, where he is responsible for the organization and management of the ITU-T study groups, Focus Groups, Global Standardization Initiatives, Joint Coordination Activities, and its secretariat.
During his presentation, Dr. Jamoussi graphically presented the objectives and results of the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly, WTSA, which is held every four years and defines the next ITU-T study period. the last one was the WTSA-20, which took place in Geneva, Switzerland, from 1 to 9 March, 2022, which was preceded by the Global Standards Symposium, on February 28, 2022.
The main goal of this talk was to present first-hand the activities and role of the ITU-T and, specifically, its work in Latin America, to know how governments, companies, academia and civil society can participate and get involved in its activities and why it is important to do so, especially with regard to its important work in the field of development and promotion of Smart Cities. Also to spread the Organization’s perspectives for the region and what public policy recommendations within its focus of activity does it have for our Latin America and the Caribbean region.
